Palm Sunday – A Time for Pause

In the midst of the Global Covid-19 pandemic, Christians all over the world will pause today to commemorate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus in to Jerusalem as our steps towards the crucifixion gathers momentum.

There are many lessons and questions that will confront us once again. Let’s pause and think about what the Triumphal Entry might suggest to us about our speech claims, even in our silence. Can it be disputed that:

  • People are not always truthful.
  • People can and do change their opinions.
  • People don’t always have the courage to say what they think or believe.

With which of these three core facts do you disagree?

The verbal acclaim and practical response that Jesus attracted from the crowd as he entered Jerusalem was as profound as it was puzzling. Hosanna, you no doubt know, literally means “save now” but could be used as a very respectful welcome greeting comparable to our Jamaican “big up or respeck General”  yet a week later in all likelihood, some of these same folk rejected Jesus and shouted for the release of a convicted criminal instead of the court-declared innocent Jesus! People!

Amidst the dire results of Covid-19, it is no exaggeration to say that all across the globe, in their native tongues/dialects people are saying or silently expressing the same sentiment of the crowd on Palm Sunday SAVE NOW .

Are you among them?
