Disaster Awareness & Preparedness Sunday & World Environment Day 🌱🌎

Β June 1st marked the official start of the Hurricane Season, and, as you know, hurricanes are among our chief hazards that may result in disasters. For this reason, The Jamaica Baptist Union Mission Agency (JBUMA), through its Disaster Awareness and Emergency Response (DAER) Committee over the years, has recognized the first Sunday in June as Disaster Awareness Sunday. We encourage everyone to be proactive and prepare for the season, see a few helpful tips below.Β

We should also heed the warning that earthquakes are likely to occur. It is suggested that earthquake and fire drills be undertaken and that a likely resource might be found from your local Parish Council and Fire Brigade unit to advise and offer assistance in this regard. For more disaster preparedness tips and resources visit https://www.odpem.org.jm/general-safety-tips/ and https://www.odpem.org.jm/shelters/.Β

Additionally, Monday, June 5, 2023, is recognized by the United Nations as World Environment Day and will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. For more details visit https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/ and for more information on Environmental Stewardship and The Christian Response check out our Environmental Stewardship Series (published in 2010) available in our bookstore.

As we enter the hurricane season let us remember to be good stewards of God’s creation by taking care of and bringing awareness to the protection of our environment.

Β God Bless You!Β
